The Y WA celebrated a historic first this week, with the opening of our new Broome Early Learning Centre on August 1st!
The childcare centre is the Y WA’s first service within the town, and within the greater Kimberley region.
The centre opening was enabled by the acquisition of the former Broome Daycare Centre site and staff, who will continue on with the service under the Y WA banner.
The move comes as part of the Y WA’s strategy to expand their early learning service offering to ensure quality early years education and care is available to children across the state.
The childcare centre, licenced for 62 places, is situated on a welcoming property in close proximity to the Broome town centre.
Surrounded by Broome’s quintessential palm trees, the centre features indoor learning environments, a shady verandah, and a variety of shady spots for outdoor play - including a cubby house, swings, sand pit, mud kitchen and even a custom built boat playground! The variety of areas will provide new sensory experiences to stimulate early cognitive development and learning.
The centre and existing staff will be led by Director Ana Tamanui, a Broome local with over fourteen years of experience in childcare. You may recognise her friendly face from her volunteer work with St John’s!
Our Broome childcare centre will offer nutritious home style meals, individualised learning plans, and a school drop off and pick up service.
The Y WA has been in operation in the state since 1869, with over 25 years of experience in operating children’s services. Our reach extends from Broome and Port Hedland in the northwest, Albany in the South, and Kalgoorlie to the east. Our Broome ELC is one of fourteen Early Learning Centres offered by the Y WA.
